Focus-Directed Writing™ is a work in progress. It is not a clinical therapy, but a personal writing technique. As such, there has been no research into this technique, nor has efficacy as a THERAPEUTICALLY useful tool been established.
Each and every one of us can write about our lives and experiences at any moment. Our journeys are our own; to explore, to decipher, to overcome, to celebrate. As Focus-Directed Writing continues to evolve and more people engage in the process, the technique will improve.
I believe from personal experience that it is useful for those who experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, Autism, Borderline Personality Disorder and Tourettes Syndrome, and many other state of being.
Focus-Directed Writing can be incorporated into an existing treatment or wellness program. Augusten Burroughs is available to consult and educate your clinical team so that you can offer the technique to your clients.
