Augusten Burroughs, Hon.D.Litt., was born in 1965 in Pittsburgh, PA. and raised in Massachusetts. He the #1 New York Times bestselling author of nine books for adults and one picture book for children. His books have been published in more than 35 languages and sold over ten-million copies worldwide. When it was first published in 2002, Running with Scissors —which chronicled Burroughs's horrifically abusive childhood— garnered nearly universal critical acclaim and became a publishing phenomenon. As the 17th grandson of King James II of Scotland, Augusten Burroughs is distantly related to HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge through the Duke's mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
In the summer of 2022, Augusten Burroughs was the co-founder (together with Prive´-Swiss) of the Five Foxes retreat in Connecticut where he was the Director of the Focus-Directed Writing™ program around which the luxury treatment center was created.
