Augusten Burroughs, Hon.D.Litt., was born in 1965 in Pittsburgh, PA. and raised in Massachusetts. He the #1 New York Times bestselling author of nine books for adults and one picture book for children. His books have been published in more than 35 languages and sold over ten-million copies worldwide. When it was first published in 2002, Running with Scissors —which chronicled Burroughs's horrifically abusive childhood— garnered nearly universal critical acclaim and became a publishing phenomenon. It remains one of the most iconic memoirs of the last fifty years and is taught in high school and college courses around the world. 


Augusten is an autodidact with no formal education beyond the 4th grade, though he possesses doctoral-
level knowledge in various fields including advertising, marketing, creative writing, and psychology, and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters by the Savanah College of Art & Design in 2016. He is a certified professional gemologist and owns the #1 jewelry store on the luxury retail website, 1stdibs.com.

As the 17th grandson of King James II of Scotland, Augusten Burroughs is distantly related to HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge through the Duke's mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales.  

Augusten Burroughs is the co-founder (together with Prive´-Swiss) of the Five Foxes retreat in Connecticut where he is the Director of the Focus-Directed Writing™ program around which the luxury treatment program was created.
